CPU, RAM or Network throttling on hosting companies

Discussion in 'Performance Tweaking' started by Casper2416_, Jun 21, 2021.

  1. Hello everyone,
I have a question. If someone is performing actions that are very RAM, CPU or Network intensive (e.g. someone is experiencing a DDoS attack or using WorldEdit on a very big scale) and is hosting there server on the same node as me at a hosting company, will this affect the performance on my server? I heard they automaticly create a VM when you purchase your server, so limiting resources is easier. Is this true?

    Thank you! :)

  2. With Network yes, with Ram no.
CPU depends on how they do it exactly.

  3. Does that mean that if I get a dedicated IP, network throttling isn't a problem? Or is a dedicated IP just another layer on top of the standard public IP?

  4. A server can be assigned multiple IPs over one cable. However network throttling is not happening usually, network bandwhich won't be a problem. The only problem is that a ddos of another server will affect yours as well, but thats a problem you can ask your host to solve (ddos protection) or compensate for (some free hosting time after your server was down).
