Disable Hyperthreading

Discussion in 'Performance Tweaking' started by meytro, Jun 24, 2015.

  1. Hey,

I have a pretty simple question: Does it improve the singlethread performance of a Intel processor if you disable the Hyperthreading feature?
And if it will: How much performance you get out of this if you just host one spigot instance on the whole server?

Quick google found this http://www.reddit.com/r/pcgaming/comments/2hti6m/why_does_disabling_hyperthreading_supposedly_give/ it appears it may help a bit.

Just google "does disabling hyperthread increase singlethread performance" or something like that.

The above link was only 8 months old ^ hyperthreading hasn't changed much in that time, and I'm sure the CPU in your server is 8 months old or more anyway.

But yes, they could probably give you a good answer.

It won't make a difference unless you're maxing out all of the cores and have other processes running in the background. If anything, you'll force a similar process as the software level, which will be much more inefficient than the hardware level.
