How did you start to code?

Discussion in 'Spigot Discussion' started by ImChicago, Jun 25, 2015.

  1. List the way(s) you have learned how to code over the time, I've personally used YouTube and general information based off what I learned from YouTube.

  2. Internet, youtube, forums and blabla

  3. I watched videos and tried to make plugins, if you have no plan about a problem/error, just google it (minecraft bukkit "your problem").

Started in 2013 with thenewboston, by the end of the series I thought his tutorials weren't covering as much as I'd liked them to, so I just filled in with the oracle tutorials.

  7. I made a problem first and started with Bukkit without understanding Java.. I got to learn everything and then complete Bukkit.
I was watching YouTube tutorials and when I need help creating something or fixing an error I head over here or bukkit forums.
    Good luck

I can't give all the details, just know that those 3 things combined in a special way taught me.

  16. Caffeine goes in, code comes out. You can't explain that.

  17. I used the Youtube for start Programming! :D

  18. Taught myself, mainly by just writing programs and reading books.

My first program was written in a language called FOCAL for a PDP-8L with 4k words of core memory. It was a type of roulette program. That was in 1975.

After I taught myself FORTRAN by reading a book, I think my first FORTRAN program was one to print all the 7-letter words you can get from a phone number. I still have the program; it's from 1976:

    Code (Fortran):

C THIS PROGRAM WILL TAKE A SEVEN DIGIT TELEPHONE NUMBER,
C AND PRINT ALL THE POSSIBLE COMBINATIONS OF THE LETTERS THAT
C APPEAR ON THE DIAL AND CORRESPOND TO THE INPUT NUMBER.
    C
C MORE THAN ONE NUMBER MAY BE RUN AT ONE TIME. EACH
C NUMBER SHOULD BE A SEVEN DIGIT NUMBER WITH NO DASHES.
    C
          PROGRAM PHONE
          IMPLICIT INTEGER (A-Z)
          INTEGER N(7),T(10,3)
          DATA T/'.','A','D','G','J','M','P','T','W','.',
         % '.','B','E','H','K','N','R','U','X','.',
         % '.','C','F','I','L','O','S','V','Y','.'/
     9000 CONTINUE
          READ(1,1001,END=9999)N
     1001 FORMAT(7I1)
          WRITE(6,3001)N
     3001 FORMAT('1',3I1,'-',4I1)
          DO 1002 I=1,7
          IF(N(I).EQ.0) N(I)=10
     1002 CONTINUE
          WRITE(6,2001)(((((((T(N(1),A),T(N(2),B),T(N(3),C),T(N(4),D),
         %T(N(5),E),T(N(6),F),T(N(7),G),G=1,3),F=1,3),E=1,3),D=1,3),
         %C=1,3),B=1,3),A=1,3)
     2001 FORMAT((' ',16(7A1,1X)))
          GOTO 9000
     9999 STOP
          END
