As you can see in the last 3 lines, "MOD" is in a much smaller font than the rest of the text. I am using no resource pack, and there server didn't send me one. I wonder how this is possible in Spigot?
You mean these? http://www.alt-codes.net/ I'll test later if clients can successfully receive chat messages consisting of those characters.
As far as I am aware you should be able to just copy them or any unicode character into your IDE and they should work fine, that's how servers send hearts and skulls etc.
