Hey, lately i was thinking about setting up a Minecraft Server, selfhosted at my home. Because electricity isnt that cheap if you run Hardware 24/7, i was thinking about some low-energy Hardware but im unsure if it could handle a Server with like 5-10 Players max and maybe a few Plugins. RAM wouldnt be a problem, but im not sure if the real low Power CPUs could handle it. No, these CPU's would give you horrible performance if you tried running a server off of them. Most modern CPU's are pretty good about conserving power when not in use. You could take a look at the E3-1200 series or E3-1200L series if you wanted server-grade CPU's. But if you live in an area with high power costs and only want 5-10 players, it might make more sense to just get a shared hosting plan for a couple of dollars a month. That would likely save you money over, say, a 50W server running 24/7 in your home.
No, a 10 Watt processor won't be good enough. How much is electricity (cents/kWh) where you live? Note that if you already have a desktop system that you're using it during the day, leaving it on 24/7 with the monitors off might not be much more expensive. e.g., if you're already using it 10 hours a day, you only need to pay for another 14 hours. (Your monitor might use 20 to 60 Watts.)
