Plugin development. How to auto-check for updates?

Discussion in 'Spigot Plugin Development' started by xexsync, Jul 14, 2015.

  1. Hi. I am currently developing a simple chat plugin, and I am very new to plugin making, so this may be something simple that i just don't understand. What I want to do is to be able to auto-check for updates and then let the server administrator(s) know in console/in-game that a new update is available at (x) website. (say i had it on spigotmc) Again, this is my first plugin, and i am very new to this. Thanks in advance!

  2. Have a website that stores the latest version, then read the website and compare it with the current plugin version.
  3. How exactly would i do this? I am very new to coding, I just learned yesterday. I don't understand alot of it. thanks!
  4. If you are very new to this I highly suggest learning basic parts of Java before attempting something like this.
  5. Oracle has a great tutorial on reading websites. Just make a URLConnection and use a BufferedReader to read it.
  6. Thanks for the suggestion :)
