Reduce lag at maximum

  1. Hey guys,

I've been upgrading my server to 1.8 recently, and I did some optimisations to my config file, but I want to know what can I do to make it even better.

In this case, this is a Faction server, but I also run a RP and Minigames.

This is a recent timings report : http://timings.aikar.co/?url=11026261

My dedicated server is a 3.4Ghz Xeon E3-1245v2, but I'm thinking to switch to an i7 4770K @3.5Ghz, will it changes something ?

Servers are with 32Gb of RAM and running on SSD.

    Here's a sample of my spigot.yml

    Code (Text):
        merge-radius:
          item: 3.0
          exp: 4.0
        item-despawn-rate: 6000
        chunks-per-tick: 500
        max-tick-time:
          tile: 25
          entity: 25
        growth:
          cactus-modifier: 130
          cane-modifier: 130
          melon-modifier: 130
          mushroom-modifier: 130
          pumpkin-modifier: 130
          sapling-modifier: 130
          wheat-modifier: 130
        entity-activation-range:
          animals: 16
          monsters: 26
          misc: 10
        entity-tracking-range:
          players: 48
          animals: 48
          monsters: 48
          misc: 32
          other: 64
        ticks-per:
          hopper-transfer: 12
          hopper-check: 12
        hopper-amount: 2
        view-distance: 6
I hesitate to push some values even lower ...

    Thank you very much :)

Hostile entities are your highest lag cause. Probably because their activation range is at 26.

  3. Lool! 32gb ram for one server.. Oh god the garbage collector..

Maybe add factions1 and factions2 connected with a bungee instance with a hub..

  4. Yeah, 26 chunks seems a bit overkill to me. Perhaps change it to whatever the view distance is?

  5. There's BungeeCord and a Login server on the same hardware. (i'm using BungeeAuth)

I'll reduce the monsters activation range to something like 16.

    Anything else ?

  6. Try not to have too many plugins, erm
Restrict world size. (with worldborder cmd and/or using WorldBorder plugin)
Get a plugin like ClearLag to remove entities and such.
Also when its lagging so /stoplag (its a worldguard command) it basically stops falling blocks, removes entities, blocks mob spawning and more.
.Wondering how to re-enable it? Simply do /stoplag -c
