Server domain is not working

Discussion in 'Server & Community Management' started by Justin393, Jul 6, 2016.

  1. So I'm trying to setup a custom domain for my server, I have the domain working for my website and mail server, but for some reason it doesn't want to bind correctly to the minecraft server. When I try connecting to it via the client it takes forever to ping and finally returns "Can't connect to server"

I want my IP to be mc.medievalearth.us

Here are my godaddy DNS records:

    A: Host - 'server' Points to - '142.4.218.206' TTL - '1/2'

    SRV: Name - 'mc' target - 'server.medievalearth.us' protocol - '_tcp ' service - '_minecraft ' priority -' 0 '

    weight - '0' port - '25631' TTL - '1/2'

    What is the issue?

    * the 's are not in the record, they're just included so they can easily be seperated here

Domains may take up to 48 hours to correctly point to your IP address.

  3. Yeah, I've seen that, but it's working correctly every where else including my website and mail server, so I was just wondering why this one was being wacky.

Does anything seem wrong with that while I wait?

  4. It appears correct, domains can take up-to 48 hours to propagate. It's a little irritating and the waiting time can vary, just make sure to flush your DNS every so often and check with a simple ping to see if has or not.

Your mail servers should all be using @, while your Minecraft server is most likely using a sub-domain.

  6. this is weird, I've flushed my DNS quite a few times, and whenever I run a ping it seems to be going to the wrong IP

    Here's a ping to my website (medievalearth.us)
    Code (Text):
Pinging medievalearth.us [185.27.134.94] with 32 bytes of data:
    Reply from 185.27.134.94: bytes=32 time=125ms TTL=52
    Reply from 185.27.134.94: bytes=32 time=125ms TTL=52
    Reply from 185.27.134.94: bytes=32 time=127ms TTL=52
    Reply from 185.27.134.94: bytes=32 time=123ms TTL=52

    Ping statistics for 185.27.134.94:
        Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
        Minimum = 123ms, Maximum = 127ms, Average = 125ms
    ping to server (mc.medievalearth.us)
    Code (Text):

Pinging 11776.BODIS.COM [199.59.243.120] with 32 bytes of data:
    Request timed out.

    Ping statistics for 199.59.243.120:
        Packets: Sent = 1, Received = 0, Lost = 1 (100% loss),

As you can see, your sub-domain is clearly not pointing correctly. Make sure you are using the correct IP and port in your records.

  8. That's the thing, I am using the correct IP and port
