What's better to learn to code?

Discussion in 'Programming' started by IHazSugar, Jun 8, 2015.

  1. I understand that there are many threads about what's the best to code, but I couldn't find one that was answering this specific question. Is TheNewBoston better to learn as a brand new beginner to java, or the book "Java for dummies."?

When I tried learning Java through video tutorials, I always zoned out. If you're the type of person to do something similar, go with the book.

  3. Well with TheNewboston when he's trying to explain things he would say something like "Each data type for each method....", and I'm like... well I would probably be able to understand what you were saying if you explained what a data type for a method was. :p

  4. Basically whatever you prefer. I personally prefer books, as I'm currently learning through Java Beginner's Guide Fifth Edition. If I don't understand something, I do a quick google search/youtube.

Do not watch TheNewBoston. Anyone else on the forums can tell you that.

  6. Should i try other youtubers, or just go with teh book?

  7. Go with this: https://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/. It's the official Java documentation made specifically to learn Java.

  8. You can check out DevForums
It's new, although soon it'll spread out and people will start posting tutorials.

  9. You also created it. You're probably just mentioning it to get new users.

  10. I'm dying:

  11. Nope, it's for future references whenever someone posts a Java tutorial.
The link in my signature is there to get new users, :)

It's another computer programming language, what's wrong?

  12. You have 3 languages out of billions. One of which is Batch.

  13. I doubt it will be successful. It also might not be allowed on Spigot since it is advertising.

  14. Everyone advertises in their signature :p But I doubt it will become popular since there are plenty of programming-oriented forums out there (including Spigot).

  15. Spigot is revolved around Minecraft, this is revolved around basically any language.

  16. Fixed it for you :)

  17. Except good languages and technologies like BASH (not batch), C, C++, HTML, css, JSP, etc.

  18. Added a section for each of the listed.

  19. There's no way you will be able to cover every language, its just too broad a scope.
