Why does a server's TPS go down after a certain time?

  1. I know it's a question that many people have been wondering, and I'd like to find an alternative solution for it without having to restart the server, therefore I'd like to learn as much about it as possible.

For a large server, what factors contribute to the server's TPS going down over time and why restarting the server fixes it?

    Define "certain time"
    Are you saying 1-2 hours, 6-12, 24+?
  3. Does it make any difference? Let's say 6 hours

I assumed you made this thread cause your server after 6 hours is dropping in TPS, maybe I am wrong. :p

Well on weekends when I have 75+ average members online, my TPS is just fine.
Only time it drops if too many entities in the world or clumped up in one block, other than that I usually stick to restarting once a day.

Not sure how often the 200+ player servers do it.

    I restart every 6 hours.

I don't restart my servers for days at a time and they run at a constant 20TPS, but then again I don't run a big server. :p
