Spigot Forum Rules

Forum Rules

Please read before using the forums and its features

The Spigot forums are a great tool, they allow you to improve your server and have fun time as well. The Spigot forums also can be a target for trolls and meanies! To stop this we have moderators that enforce these rules and keep the environment happy. These rules should be followed at all times.

Punishment System
Spigot tries to keep its moderation lightweight, but if you don't follow the rules, these punishments could ensue:
  • If you make a post that is mean or inflammatory, it will be removed and you will get a warning.
  • Following several warnings, you will receive a short ban of at least a few days.
  • If you then continue to break the rules, you will receive a longer ban, usually a few weeks long.
  • If you continue, it is likely you will be permanently banned (particularly egregious events may mean a permanent ban without prior warning).
These lengths and criteria are not definite, but rather a rough idea of the consequences. Moderators will always take into account a user's history before issuing a ban of any length. Please remember that punishments are up to the moderators – they can alter these guidelines per case.

Spigot Rules
  1. Keep forum threads and posts respectful and appropriate.
    1. If you think it might be disrespectful or inappropriate, don't say it.
    2. Anything of a sexual nature is not permitted on the forums, and depending on the severity of the content posted, could lead to an instant suspension of your account.
  2. Racism, sexism, or other forms of bigotry are strictly prohibited.
    1. Do not use racial slurs or bigoted remarks (e.g. another user’s English abilities) towards other users.
  3. Any form of trolling, flaming, flame-baiting, or being overly aggressive towards other users is not permitted.
    1. Keep discussion civil. Do not harass or threaten other users or use Spigot as a place to coordinate attacks on others.
    2. Keep discussion relevant – deliberately derailing a thread will get you punished.
      1. The offtopic section is for threads that don't really fit in with the rest of the forums. They should still stay on track with the given topic.
    3. Do not insult other users — doing so is abusive, and if it isn't nice, just don't say it. Even if another user is insulting you, the responsible thing to do is report the post and move on.
  4. Do not abuse any feature of the forums (such as post ratings which are designed to be used appropriately and in moderation) or else your privileges may be revoked.
    1. Do not abuse the resources system.
      1. Posting malicious resources is not allowed – this includes plugins of a malicious nature towards clients as well (i.e. intentional crashing). Doing so will result in their removal and your account will be permanently suspended.
      2. Posting someone else’s plugin or resource is not allowed. This includes minor edits such as configuration changes and code directly taken from tutorials / other plugins. The resource in question will be deleted.
        1. In the case that you attempt to sell someone else’s work as your own as a Premium Resource, this will result in the deletion of the resource and an instant ban of your account without warning.
        2. In the event that you post someone’s paid resource either from Spigot or elsewhere on the site, this will also result in an instant removal of the account and an instant ban of your account without warning.
      3. Refrain from commenting on premium resources which you have not purchased, especially when your sole criticism is it's price or whether or not you think it is worth being a premium resource. Developers are free to set any price they wish, it is a free market and you are not required to purchase it if you dislike it.
      4. Do not distribute premium resources to others who have not purchased the resource(s). This does not only violate what should be an obvious forum rule, but it also violates international copyright law and will get your account permanently banned without warning.
      5. Using pay-per-click sites such as adf.ly or other similar services to distribute resources is forbidden. Additionally, other sites found to be potentially malicious are subject to moderation based on a moderator's discretion.
      6. All obfuscated resources published after 5 June 2015 must keep the main part of the package deobfuscated for approval purposes. Failure to follow this requirement may result in your resource being rejected.
      7. You may not use the name of other servers or brands to advertise your resource unless consent has been given. This means that resources such as "XXXX inspired by YYYY.net" / "AAAA like BBBB" for example are not allowed unless YYYY.net has given permission for their brand to be used in this way.
  5. Swearing should be used in moderation.
    1. Shouldn’t be directed at other people or businesses.
    2. Shouldn’t be excessive (moderator's discretion).
    3. Shouldn’t contravene other rules, such as Rule #1.
  6. Do not post threads in the wrong category.
    1. Spigot has several categories and this allows us the keep the posts organized. Please post in the correct category, and if you are not sure, post it in what you think is the closest category and report your thread asking for a moderator to move it if necessary.
    2. There are also several threads detailing what is appropriate for specific sections, such as the Discussion and Help sections. Please read these first before posting.
    3. Where SpigotMC software is concerned, discussion, support & distribution should be limited to official versions and sources.
    4. Resources that require third party software to load (ie: Skript) should clearly state so in the description.
  7. No advertising servers, real-world products, services, or any other type of paid item / service outside of the Services & Recruitment section.
    1. Most of us are very busy server owners, and most of the time we don't have time to play your servers. Instead of advertising your server, try asking for help about how it can be improved!
      1. Only post an IP or server address if it is really necessary for the purpose of the thread, such as seeking feedback from others. If a moderator feels it is abusive, we will remove it.
    2. Do not post threads asking the community to "Name your X", including but not limited to usernames, servers, services, products, etc (moderator’s discretion).
    3. Threads and posts advertising any real-world products or services are not permitted and they will be removed. This includes services such as hosting services, YouTube videos, or other products. Affiliate links may not be used in forum posts.
    4. In addition to these rules, the Service & Recruitment sections have their own sets of rules that are not specified here. Posting threads outside of the correct section will result in the thread being deleted without warning.
  8. Do not threaten other users, servers or communities.
    1. We do not support hate towards other communities, including, but not limited to, threatening DDoS attacks, harassment, or other similar activities. Such actions will involve punishments and sometimes even contacting authorities.
    2. Any release of private, personal information of another user is not permitted under any circumstances. This includes but is not limited to another user's address, location, or IP address. In the event that you share another user's information without explicit permission, you will receive an immediate suspension.
  9. Keep the forums in English as much as possible.
    1. If you don't speak English, there are Russian and French versions of Spigot available to you. If you are going to use the main forums, you should at least try and use Google Translate and post all threads in English.
    2. English-speaking users should be kind and courteous to other users who aren’t as fluent in English. Deliberately harassing the user for a lack of English proficiency is not permitted.
  10. Discussion or distribution of illegal content is not permitted in any form.
    1. This includes but is not limited to pirated content, nulled licenses for paid software, or anything where it could be deemed illegal.
      1. In addition to this, the Spigot community will not give any form of support for pirated contented such as the examples listed above. Threads seeking support for pirated software or content will be deleted without warning.
    2. Depending on the severity of the content posted, your account could be immediately suspended without warning. If you’re unsure, just don’t post it.
  11. Ban evasion under any form is not permitted.
    1. Using an alternative account to evade a punishment will result in the immediate suspension of the alternative account and lengthening of your ban. If you wish to obtain more information about your ban, please send an email to [email protected].
    2. Discussions of your ban, or other user's bans is strictly prohibited. All discussion of bans should be done via email.
  12. If you wish to create an alternative account, please email [email protected] to request special permission to do so. If this is not done, any alternative accounts may be permanently banned without warning.
  13. If you require staff assistance, please open a report or email [email protected]. Do not private message staff members.
  14. Users will take all responsibility for actions performed on their account.
    1. Keeping your account secure is your responsibility. You will be held responsible if your account is "hacked" or if a "friend" used it.
  15. These rules are subject to change at any time and are in no way permanent. The Spigot team is not responsible for notifying users of these changes.
  16. In dispute of unlisted rules, a moderator’s say is final.
    1. Any complaints about a moderator’s actions must be directed to the administration team at [email protected].

Caught somebody breaking the rules?

Hit the "Report" button below posts and a Moderator will get to it as soon possible.

Looking to appeal a ban?
Do not create an alternative account to post a thread asking about why you were banned — this is breaking Rule #11 and will get your alternative account banned. Instead, please write an appeal to [email protected] explaining why you believe that you should be unbanned or any other information that you believe is relevant to your specific case.
