  • Switching from Eclipse to IntelliJ

Many people have been asking me to create an tutorial for switching from eclipse to IntelliJ, and there was a lack of good tutorials that you could read out there.

In the following wiki, I will teach you these primary subjects:

    - Installing IntelliJ
    - Switching from Eclipse to IntelliJ
    - Setting up your project
    - Building an artifact
    - Successfully exporting your project as a jar.

    1 ) Installing IntelliJ

There guides are assuming you have a JDK installed!

    Windows:

    1. Download IntelliJ from their official site.
    2. Run the downloaded .exe file then follow the installation wizard.

    Mac:

    1. Download IntelliJ from their official site.
    2. Open the .DMG
    3. Drag the folder to the applications directory.

    Linux:
This tutorial is a bit more advanced and is assuming you have Ubuntu / CentOS.
Note: I'm only a centos and Ubuntu system administrator, please refer to Google if you run a different OS.

    [Ubuntu]

1 ) Refer to the IntelliJ website and download the tar.gz file

2 ) Rename the folder "idea.tar.gz" and move it to your desktop

3 ) Now, you're gonna wanna extract the tar.gz file by doing the following command in a terminal window:

    Code (Text):
    tar xzvf idea.tar.gz
After you do that, there will be a newly created folder on the Desktop, in the console window, type:

    Code (Text):
    cd Desktop
    cd idea
This will put you in your idea folder, now redirect to the bin directory and launch the sh file

    Code (Text):
    cd bin
    /idea.sh

    !!!! FINISHED WITH INSTALLATION !!!!

2 ) Switching from IntelliJ to Eclipse
